FAQs

You have questions and we have answers. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions we receive. Have a question that isn’t addressed below? Contact us. Our team is here to help.

Our clinicians have expertise in a variety of forms of psychotherapy as well as other useful approaches including mindfulness meditation, executive coaching, and psychopharmacology (medication) if indicated. Some of the specific psychotherapy techniques in which our clinicians are trained include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Supportive Psychotherapy.

Some of our clinicians are also highly experienced and skilled mindfulness instructors as well as psychotherapists. Every treatment is highly individualized for each client. We treat a wide range of life issues, psychological symptoms, and psychiatric diagnoses, including anxiety, depression, issues with attention and procrastination, stress management, relationship difficulties, challenging life transitions, problem solving, and career and professional counseling, amongst others.

TMP reserves a limited number of appointments for those using in-network insurance benefits. Please call us directly to check your eligibility and the availability of these appointments. We do not participate in Medicare nor Medicaid. If we cannot accommodate your in-network benefits and you have “out-of-network” benefits, we will help you, if you like, apply for reimbursement from your insurance company.

Since every insurance plan is different, you may want to call your insurance company directly to ask how much you will be reimbursed for your visit. It might be helpful to supply the insurance company with the specific codes we use for our initial visit (CPT code 90791) and for follow-up visits (CPT code 90834). For visits with our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, we use for our initial visit (CPT code 90792) and follow-up visits (CPT code 99214).

The majority of our clinicians are licensed in NY and NJ. In addition to these, individual clinicians are licensed in states such as CT, NC, CA, and FL. When you inquire, please ask us if we can accommodate your state of residency.

We understand that paying out of pocket can be costly, which is why we have reserved a certain number of spots for individuals wishing to use their insurance. In addition, we have a range of fees beginning at 200.00/visit. We accept credit cards, and will keep one on file to pay for your visits.

Prior to your first appointment, either Dr. Goodman or Dr. Samton will talk with you on the phone so as to gain a basic understanding of your current needs and goals in order to choose a therapist for you that matches your needs and style. At your first visit, you will be asked about the nature of the current difficulties you are facing as well as your personal, family, and medical history.

We are interested in learning about your goals and hopes for therapy, and you will have time to ask any questions you may have. Towards the end of the appointment, you and your therapist will formulate a plan for future treatment, if you decide this is something you want to proceed with.

This will depend on your preference and your therapist’s recommendation, as well as scheduling and availability. Sessions are for 45 minutes and, at least initially, are typically once a week, and treatments vary in length from weeks to months to years.

The length of your treatment will be up to you, based on your issues and goals. In order to insure that your treatment remains productive, from time to time you and your therapist will check in with each other in order to make sure that treatment remains focused on your goals and continues to help you move forward.

Availability varies, depending on the therapist. Our office is open on weekdays from 8 to 6, with some limited evening availability at later hours, depending on the therapist.

At TMP we typically are not able to offer a same day intake assessment. Hence, if you are seeking help for an emergency that cannot wait a few days if need be, then you may want to consider accessing an emergency room or other crisis center.

Also, while our clinicians have expertise in working with individuals on a wide range of issues including difficulties with substance use, we don’t provide specialized treatment focused primarily on alcohol or drug addiction.
