Lesley Alderman, LCSW
Lesley’s style is curious, collaborative and compassionate. She creates a safe space in which clients can freely explore their thoughts, feelings and frustrations.
Lesley earned a Master of Social Work degree from New York University and a B.A. in psychology, magna cum laude, from Hamilton College. She has done advanced training in interpersonal psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the William Alanson White Institute and in couples therapy through the Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy. Lesley also writes regularly about mental health and wellness topics for The New York Times.
Lesley’s therapeutic approach is relational, but she also draws on the tenets of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. When appropriate, she provides clients with writing assignments to help them explore stressful events or complex feelings. She currently treats adults and couples with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, grief, mood disorders, relationship issues, and career challenges.
Lesley is certified as a yoga teacher through Om Yoga, and has taught yoga to adults and to children in New York City public schools. She is a former Time Inc. magazine editor—which informs her work with individuals in creative and demanding careers.
