Kate Ballen’s goal is to create a collaborative and caring relations with each individual, working in a range of approaches that include psychodynamic and practical behavioral treatment that speak to where the person is and wants to be.
Kate’s journey to becoming a therapist stems from many years of understanding and writing people’s life narratives. Kate was a journalist at FORTUNE Magazine, a writer of two award winning feature films and plays. She also ran parent groups as a Shimm Fellow for over a decade at Barnard College. Kate is the co-author of the popular book ‘’Parenting your Toddler: The Expert’s Guide to the Tough and Tender Years.” Kate additionally has worked and volunteered with a variety of populations in the New York education system.
Kate received a BA from Brown University in semiotics and most recently received her MSW from Yeshiva University. Kate looks forward to continuing to work with adults, couples and parents. Whether it be adults dealing with relationship and career difficulties, couples having difficulty communicating, and families facing tough life transitions, Kate prioritizes each person’s understanding of themselves and their goals.
Kate believes in collaborating without judgement; helping each person create a more meaningful, happy, creative life. Being a lifelong learner and improving skills as a therapist is very important to Kate. Kate cares deeply about being supportive and available to patients.
