Annie Gilbert, MFT-LP

Annie, MFT-LP, is a psychotherapist who helps individuals, couples, and families better understand their relationships and the patterns that may be keeping them stuck. She works collaboratively with clients to strengthen connection, build understanding, and create meaningful change.

Annie supports clients through a wide range of life stages and challenges, including preparing for marriage, separation, infidelity, divorce, and other major transitions. She believes there is no “right” time to seek support, whether a couple is just beginning to build a life together or has spent decades doing so. Her experience includes interfaith and intercultural couples, LGBTQ+ couples, and couples exploring polyamory and consensual non-monogamy.

She also works with individuals and couples navigating pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, fertility, and decisions about growing or changing a family. Annie helps clients navigate the emotional and relational shifts that can accompany these experiences while staying connected.

With families, Annie works across different life stages and structures to foster stronger communication and deeper connection. Together, she and her clients explore relational patterns, navigate challenges, and develop healthier ways of relating.

Annie’s approach is thoughtful, practical, and action-oriented. She is a directive, progress-driven therapist who believes therapy should be an open conversation about what is working, what isn’t, and what needs to shift. She helps clients turn insight into meaningful change while assessing progress and adjusting the work as needed.

Annie uses an Integrative Systemic Therapy framework, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Gottman-informed interventions. She tailors her approach to each client’s goals, relationships, family, culture, and circumstances.

Before becoming a therapist, Annie worked in strategy consulting and at a fast-paced technology startup. These experiences shaped her understanding of high-performance environments and the challenges of balancing demanding careers with relationships and life outside of work.

Annie received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University and holds a B.S. from Cornell University in Behavioral Neuroscience and Human Development. Her clinical training includes Gottman Method Levels 1 & 2, Bringing Home the Baby, specialized training in perinatal and reproductive mental health through the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and more than a year of training at the Ackerman Institute in the Ackerman Relational Approach.
