Esmé Stern, LMSW
Good fit for young adults navigating trauma
Trauma, especially complex trauma, can shape how you see yourself, how you connect with others, and where you’re headed.
I work with adults, particularly young adults in their 20s and 30s, who are untangling those threads while also figuring out who they want to become.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in media and journalism, so I especially understand clients in creative or public-facing careers, where old wounds and professional pressure often collide.
- Credentials: Licensed Master Social Worker #127703, advanced clinical training in trauma studies at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy
- Specialty Areas: Trauma, anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, identity development, life transitions
- Availability: Virtual & in-person in NYC
Jane Ray, LMHC-D
Good fit for adolescents, creatives, and those interested in EMDR or with CPTSD
Helping people heal from trauma is at the heart of my work. I spent years working in a clinic devoted specifically to trauma, and I’m certified in EMDR, one of the most effective and well-researched treatments for PTSD.
My experience as a school-based social worker has given me a particular passion for supporting adolescents, and I also enjoy working with artists and performers—people whose creative lives and painful experiences are often deeply intertwined.
- Credentials: Licensed Mental Health Counselor #011571, certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) & Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Specialty Areas: Trauma, adolescents, creatives, anxiety, depression, identity exploration
- Availability: Virtual & in-person in NYC
Danielle Esposito, LCSW
Good fit for parents, couples, and families healing from trauma
The impacts of trauma rarely affect just one person; they often ripple through marriages, parenting, and whole families.
I’ve spent nearly two decades doing this work, including 14 years supporting children and families as they healed together.
I have a special commitment to parents, co-parents, and single mothers, including those carrying past trauma through fertility journeys, pregnancy, and new parenthood.
- Credentials: Licensed Clinical Social Worker #082757
- Specialty Areas: Trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, grief, life transitions
- Availability: Virtual & in-person in NYC
Karen Franklin, LCSW
Good fit for adults seeking deeper, insight-oriented trauma work
After more than twenty years as a therapist, I’ve learned that trauma symptoms are rarely the whole story. Together, we’ll look beneath them at the deeper patterns shaped by your experiences so you can make real, lasting change instead of just managing surface-level symptoms. My style is warm but direct; I’ll be honest with you, because that’s what real progress requires.
- Credentials: Licensed Clinical Social Worker #100938
- Specialty Areas: Trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions
- Availability: Virtual & in-person in NYC
Azat Oganesian, LCSW
Good fit for trauma with anger, stress, or panic
Trauma often co-exists with other struggles—anger that flares without warning, panic, stress that never lets up—and I specialize in that intersection.
My clients learn to step out of destructive patterns and build real resilience, so setbacks stop derailing them.
Above all, I offer a trusting, nonjudgmental relationship where you can say anything without fear and get honest enough to make real change.
- Credentials: Licensed Clinical Social Worker #087559
- Specialty Areas: Trauma, anger management, depression, panic, anxiety, stress management, problem-solving

- Thoughtful clinician matching. Our Clinical Coordinator speaks with you first, learns what you’re facing, and connects you with the therapist best suited to your needs, schedule, and style.
- In-person, virtual, or hybrid sessions. Meet us at our Midtown Manhattan office on East 48th Street, from home, or both.
- Extended hours. Many clinicians offer evening availability so you can find a time that works for you.

FAQs about therapy for PTSD and C-PTSD
Both conditions stem from trauma, but they differ in origin and scope.
PTSD typically develops after a single traumatic event or a discrete period of trauma, and commonly involves:
- Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares
- Avoidance of trauma reminders
- Hypervigilance and heightened startle responses
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) usually results from prolonged or repeated trauma—often beginning in childhood—and includes PTSD symptoms plus:
- Persistent difficulty regulating emotions
- Deeply negative self-perception, shame, or guilt
- Ongoing struggles with trust and relationships
An experienced trauma therapist can help clarify which pattern fits your experience and shape treatment accordingly.
There’s no singular “best” kind of therapy for trauma-related conditions. Our team is trained in several evidence-based trauma treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), EMDR, trauma-focused CBT, and psychodynamic approaches, and shape sessions to each client. Medication can also help some people.
The best treatment for you depends on your history, symptoms, and preferences, which is why our team offers multiple modalities and matches you with the right clinician from the start.
Trauma therapy helps you process painful memories so that they no longer deeply impact your present experience. Over time, clients typically experience fewer intrusive symptoms, greater emotional regulation, restored trust in relationships, and a renewed sense of safety and self-worth. Therapy also builds practical coping skills for managing triggers, and, when helpful, can be paired with medication support from our in-house prescribers.
Yes, PTSD and C-PTSD therapy is often covered by insurance. The Midtown Practice is an out-of-network practice and does not accept insurance directly. However, we can provide detailed invoices that you can submit to your insurance plan for out-of-network reimbursement. Many of our clients recover a meaningful portion of their session costs this way.
