With decades of experience using a broad range of therapeutic methods, the skillful professionals at The Midtown Practice (TMP) provide customized treatments to each individual client. Working collaboratively with you, we offer compassionate and effective therapeutic strategies matched to your needs and preferences, all in a discreet and confidential environment.
TMP was started by Drs. Dan Goodman and Julia Samton, two Ivy League-educated psychiatrists and long-time friends who came together to create a group practice of skilled clinicians offering a broad range of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology (medication) services to an expanded clientele.
From therapy to meditation to the latest psychopharmacological innovations, our multidisciplinary expertise gives us the flexibility to tailor your treatment to your needs and preferences. We’re fortunate to work with and have helped thousands of clients improve their everyday lives.

In order to find you an ideal clinician or therapist, our Clinical Coordinator will want to learn more about you. Specifically, it would be helpful to hear about your concerns, personal preferences, and any relevant logistical matters. For example, would you prefer in-person or video sessions? What is the best time or day to meet?
Connect with the clinician or therapist you are matched with to ask questions, share history, and make sure you feel comfortable about moving forward. If so, book your first session. If it does not feel right, circle back with us.
Schedule time to meet with your new clinician or therapist and work towards living a more fulfilling life!
Over the years, we’ve found our thoughtful matching process is the surest way to find you the ideal clinician or therapist and achieve the best outcome for you.
We have both in-person appointments at our location in Midtown Manhattan or Telehealth options available. Our therapists and clinicians are licensed in NY, the Tri-State area, and Florida, as well additional states such as MA. Please ask us whether we are licensed to practice in your area. We do not participate directly with insurance. However, we do offer an invoice for out of network benefits, which typically reimburse anywhere from 50-100 percent after meeting a certain deductible.
We have partnered with a company that provides this tool to help you receive basic information regarding your OON benefits. However, please contact your insurance company if you want the most accurate information. The amount you are reimbursed might vary depending on your location and the credentials of your TMP clinician. We understand insurance can be tricky. We have outlined some questions to ask your insurance company to receive the most accurate information. Please ask us if you need any help with this process.
The majority of our therapists/clinicians are licensed in NY and NJ. In addition, individual therapists/clinicians are also licensed in states such as CT, NC, CA, and FL. When you inquire, please ask us if we can accommodate your state of residency.
At your first visit, your clinician will want to learn more about what brought you to treatment and your personal, family, and medical history. Together, we will work to identify what you value most, and what is getting in the way of your progress and life satisfaction. You will also have time to ask any questions you may have. Toward the end of the appointment, you and your clinician will formulate a treatment plan that feels appropriate, convenient, and workable with your life circumstances.
Both the length and frequency of treatment will depend on your challenges and goals, your provider’s recommendation, as well as scheduling and availability. You and your clinician will periodically check in to ensure that your treatment remains productive.
Medication visits usually last 30 minutes and psychotherapy visits are usually 45 minutes. Couples, family, and group therapy typically last longer.
Our therapists/clinicians have availability for both in-person and virtual visits. Availability varies depending on the therapist/clinician, but we do our best to accommodate you expeditiously within the same week of your request. Our therapists/clinicians see patients Monday-Sunday with daytime and evening hours, depending on the therapist/clinician.
At TMP we do not offer emergency treatment. If you need immediate care, you might consider accessing an emergency room or other crisis center. While our therapists/clinicians have expertise in working with individuals on a wide range of issues including difficulties with substance use, we don’t provide specialized treatment focused on alcohol or drug addiction.
