Practical Meditation Techniques
Three specific, practical meditation techniques. No prior training required.
Each technique meets a different depth of injury and a different depth of healing.
1. The Band-Aid
Breath & body meditation – 60 min
- 4-7-8 breathing and progressive muscle relaxation
- Fast, somatic meditation practices that calm the acute edge of emotional injury
- Shifts a dysregulated client into a state where real clinical work is possible
2. The Deep Healing
Mantra-based meditation – 120 min
- A meditation technique that opens access to inner calm
- Helps clients build a felt, trusted relationship with their mind’s intrinsic capacity to heal
3. The Fortified Self
Embodied meditation – 60 min
- A mindfulness practice grounded in Gabor Maté’s work
- A roleplay that helps clients feel, firsthand, that choosing their emotional response is possible
- Builds a strength that outlasts the injury itself
In lieu of a fee, a detailed feedback survey is required to receive CE hours.
More than Technique, Clinical Judgment
Knowing the techniques isn’t enough. You’ll also learn when and how to use them.
1. Read the Signals
Identify the verbal and body-language cues that tell you which technique a client needs and when.
2. Pivot with Confidence
Recognize resistance or a block within a technique, and move fluidly into another.
3. Follow the Progression
Guide a client through a natural arc from Phase 1, to 2, to 3 across a course of care.
What You’ll Walk Away With
Somatic meditation practices to regulate a dysregulated client in minutes.
A simple, self-sufficient mental meditation that promotes psychological coherence and bolsters self-esteem.
A dynamic mindfulness roleplay exercise that reinforces emotional autonomy.
Techniques you can practice to refine your own resilient awareness as the clinician in the room.

Meet Your Facilitator
Jared Sossin, LMHC-D, NCC
Jared discovered meditation as an undergraduate after reading a collection of scientific papers and personal accounts describing meditation’s effects on cognition and performance. Upon learning and practicing regularly himself, Jared was struck by its progressive impact on his focus, memory retention, creativity, confidence and stress levels.
After undergraduate studies, he completed a rigorous 6-month training at an Indonesian monastery to become a certified Transcendal Meditation teacher. Jared then traveled the world teaching alongside world-renowned meditation expert Bob Roth of the David Lynch Foundation, helping individuals from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. He later earned advanced teaching certifications from the Maharishi Foundation and the School of Positive Transformation in various meditation traditions and techniques.
With over a decade of meditation teaching experience, as the co-director of The Midtown Practice’s Meditation & Mindfulness Program, Jared trains clinicians how to teach
meditation in session, designs CE workshops on the subiect, and speaks at a variety of institutions on the importance of meditation’s role within psychotherapy.
